Eyesight….for most of us this is the primary method how we interact with the world. Most kids have normal vision but as we grow older, our vision “drops off” as per conventional wisdom.

In fact, that is what my ophthalmologist told me when I went to get an eye exam. After we completed my eye exam (I had better than 20/20 vision), she mentioned to me that I would have to get glasses when I turned 40 – and there was nothing I could do to change that.

My happiness at having perfect eyesight turned to confusion and anger knowing that in 2 years I would need glasses. I was determined to find a way to keep my eyes strong naturally without needing Lasik, eye glasses or contacts.

I started looking for alternative ways to hack my vision and keep it at 20/20 or better. I came across the Bates method and it blew me away. William Bates was a surgeon, ophthalmologist and a trained Medical Doctor  in the 1800’s and he came up with the Bates method.

The whole premise of the Bates method is that the more we are relaxed when using our eyes, the better our vision gets. Using eyeglasses, or lenses, causes our vision to get worse because we are teaching our bodies to adapt to the lens. It’s like using a crutch for a twisted ankle, but you continue to keep using the crutch forever.

Another fact that blew my mind is that our vision changes day by day, and even during the day depending on our level or stress or strain in our eyesight.
