Get Smoother Skin With Red Light Therapy

I use red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, almost everyday to help me get smoother skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Let’s look at how it works.

  • Every cell in your body contains mitochondria, which produce energy called ATP through cellular respiration
  • Your mitochondria take in food, water and oxygen and produce ATP. Your cells need ATP or energy to do their jobs.
  • The more efficiently cells make energy, the better your body can run
  • Red light has been shown to help mitochondria create more energy by improving the function of the electron transport chain mediated by cytochrome c oxidase.
  • Red light may also disassociate the bound nitric oxide (NO)-cytochrome c oxidase, which can prevent ATP creation. NO can block oxygen in the ATP enzyme, so breaking up the NO-COX cycle may help us in achieving more energy.
  • Red light may help increase collagen production which can lead to fewer wrinkles on the face.
  • Promotes balanced cellular function, performance, recovery and overall wellness
  • Red light is at a wavelength between 630-700 nm and infrared is at 800nm-1mm.
  • Infrared light cannot be seen, we feel it as heat. Can go deeper and heal tissues and muscles.
  • Some people say it can help rejuvenate stretch marks, I have not found that to be the case.
  • Infrared can make your body sweat, which makes it effective as a detox mechanism. And if you have an infrared sauna, then you know what I mean.
  • You can get a red light device from RedTherapy.co. Use the code antiaginghacks for a discount.

Banish Scars With Micrroneedling

  • After a tear or injury to the skin, the wound healing process is complex and can take up to a year to complete.
  • Many times the skin doesn’t remodel perfectly, leading to either an indentation in the skin or a scar that is raised.
  • There are many types of scars such as burn scars, keloid scars, hypertropic scars, acne scars and stretch marks.
  • I have had all the above unfortunately.
  • For my more aggressive scars such as keloids, hypertropic scars and burn scars – I have tried all kinds of conventional treatments.
  • These included essential oil massages, ablative CO2 lasers that burn a couple of layers of your skin off, red light therapy, silicon gels, silicon pads, steroid injections and more.
  • The truth is, none of these treatments worked satisfactorily for me.
  • Until I started experimenting with microneedling therapy for my scars.
  • Many scientific studies have found microneedling to be an effective treatment for scar management.
  • And the results have been outstanding so far, in reducing scar height, redness, area and smoothness.
  • My needle depths have ranged from 1mm all the way to 3mm.
  • While you can safely microneedle from home, be careful if you are going to longer needle depths over 2 mm and possibly work with a practitioner the first time.
  • I have used devices like a Dr Pen (best if you have smaller scars and want more control) and a dermastamp (best if you just want to try out microneedling to see if it works for you).

Hack Brain State With Sound & Light

  • Your brain cycles through many states during the day.
  • Delta state (1 to 4 Hz) range have been associated with deep sleep and relaxation.
  • Theta state (4 to 8 Hz) is linked to REM sleep, reduced anxiety, relaxation, as well as meditative and creative states.
  • Alpha state (8 to 13 Hz) is thought to encourage relaxation, promote positivity, and decrease anxiety.
  • Lower beta frequencies (14 to 30 Hz) have been linked to increased concentration and alertness, problem solving, and improved memory.
  • However, higher beta frequencies (50 Hz and over) have been linked to anxiety, ADHD and high stress.

Binaural Beats To Change Brain State

  • When you hear two tones, one in each ear, that are slightly different in frequency, your brain processes a beat at the difference of the frequencies. This is called a binaural beat.
  • Let’s say you’re listening to a sound in your left ear that’s at a frequency of 120 Hertz (Hz). And in your right ear, you’re listening to a sound that’s at a frequency of 130 Hz.
  • Your brain, however, gradually falls into synchrony with the difference — or 10 Hz. Instead of hearing two different tones, you instead hear a tone at 10 Hz (in addition to the two tones given to each ear).
  • You can use binaural beats to entrain your brain to a focused and alert, or relaxed or even into inducing sleep.
  • I use an app for binaural beats called Brain.fm, but you can try these for free on Youtube.

BrainTap Device for Brain Entrainment

  • BrainTap is a device and technology which takes the concept of brain entrainment to a whole new level.
  • They have a headset along with an app that contains the pre-programmed states to entrain your brain.
  • In addition, the headset provides light into your eyes and in your ear canal which further enhances the experience.

Here are the different aspects included in BrainTap.

  1. Binaural beats – as discussed above
  2. Guided visualizations: there is a voice that guides you to think of mental images of you experiencing your desired result or goal. The founders claim that adding visualization improved outcomes – in addition to the other elements.
  3. 10-cycle holographic music: which produces a 360 degree sound environment, this makes the visualizations more real to the mind.
  4. Isochronic tones: which are equal intensity pulses of sounds separated by an interval of silence. These work similarly to binaural beats, and so enhance the effect.
  5. The headset provides light pulses into the ears and onto your eyes (Even though eyes are closed), theyse can provide deep levels of relaxation to affect serotonin and endorphin levels….one study showed an increase of 21%, which is nothing to sneeze at.

HeartMath For Heart & Brain Synchronization

This information has been taken from the HeartMath website – in order to explain this technology to you.

HeartMath suggests that the condition of your heart may have more to do with your emotional state than ever believed before.

Because your heart generates an electromagnetic pulse with every beat, and because this pulse can interact with the human brain, HeartMath’s Inner Balance app helps the two organs get in sync.

If you get your heart in “coherence” with your brain, you ostensibly have a happier brain.

Most of us have been taught in school that the heart is constantly responding to “orders” sent by the brain in the form of neural signals. However, it is not as commonly known that the heart actually sends more signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart!

Moreover, these heart signals have a significant effect on brain function – influencing emotional processing as well as higher cognitive faculties such as attention, perception, memory, and problem-solving. In other words, not only does the heart respond to the brain, but the brain continuously responds to the heart.

HeartMath Institute research has demonstrated that different patterns of heart has demonstrated that different patterns of heart activity (which accompany different emotional states) have distinct effects on cognitive and emotional function.

During stress and negative emotions, when the heart rhythm pattern is erratic and disordered, the corresponding pattern of neural signals traveling from the heart to the brain inhibits higher cognitive functions. This limits our ability to think clearly, remember, learn, reason, and make effective decisions. (This helps explain why we may often act impulsively and unwisely when we’re under stress.)

The heart’s input to the brain during stressful or negative emotions also has a profound effect on the brain’s emotional processes—actually serving to reinforce the emotional experience of stress.

In contrast, the more ordered and stable pattern of the heart’s input to the brain during positive emotional states has the opposite effect – it facilitates cognitive function and reinforces positive feelings and emotional stability.

This means that learning to generate increased heart rhythm coherence, by sustaining positive emotions, not only benefits the entire body, but also profoundly affects how we perceive, think, feel, and perform.

Conclusion:

I am looking to have HeartMath and BrainTap on my show soon. In addition, I will be discussing microneedling in much more detail in the near future,

In the meantime, look and feel young and live your most confident and adventurous life.
