On this episode of the Anti-Aging Hacks podcast, Faraz and Esther discuss how to get rid of back pain through posture.
We discuss the following topics:
1. Why do we all have bad posture these days?
2. How was ancestral or primal posture ideal for living a pain free life?
3. How do we train ourselves to adopt primal posture and be aligned?
Esther Gokhale (GO-clay) has been involved in integrative therapies all her life.
After experiencing crippling back pain during her first pregnancy and unsuccessful back surgery, Gokhale began her lifelong crusade to vanquish back pain.
Gokhale’s book, 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back, has sold over 200,000 copies and has been translated into ten languages.
Here are the show notes from this episode.
01:45 Dr. Esther, tell us a little bit more about yourself – How did you get into posture into first place.
She got into it in a very hard way. (Back Problems)
Things that helped her are nowadays implemented on people with serious back problems.
03:28 How long did it take you to develop what we are going to discuss today?
“It is an ongoing project.”
Teachers are learning every day new methods and ways to prevent back pain.
*Most popular back pain products are not working.
08:12 How is indigenous posture different from where are we today?
Dr. Esther explains it with pictures.
In the past, S shape spine wasn’t normal. It was a G shape.
We should look at the shape of the spine from old astronomy books.
When you have 85% of people with back pain, do you want to use the average posture for the example of ideal posture? –
In Dr. Esther’s methodology, we go back in time and copy posture from functional humans.
13:52 Follow question: How computers and phones are effecting our posture?
“It hasn’t had to be too terrible for our posture.”

18:25 Why people forget posture tips from indigenous cultures?
One of the problems is mixing people with different cultures.
When you don’t have a strong tradition of:
How to carry a baby? ; How you model the baby? – Then you adapt to the fashions, and that is a serious problem.
20:16 Let’s talk about practical examples – How can people sit correctly to bypass back problems?
*Dr. Esther shows it in a video call
*Chair type
The technique which she shows is called “Stretch sitting”
You want your upper part of the spine to be stretched.
*stack sitting
25:13 Faraz’s experience with stretch sitting:
“It allowed me to be neutral, I can sit and work for a much longer time.”
28:03 What are your thoughts on the rule of in the restful sleep for example?
“It is really important.”
You don’t want any conversation between your body and the brain in the night. The way to get it is to put your spine in good shape.
The book has step by step instructions, common mistakes, and similar things. The best way to learn how to get your spine in G shape is with the coach.
31:12 You are doing one small tip per day when people enroll, how long did this program last for people that are maybe interested?
“We have 18 lessons course.”
They always advise people to space them close together. It is for every day, every other day, or three days in the week, but not more spread than that generally.
33:14 If people sign in for your 18 days class, how long they need to see results?
“First few days they already get results”
34:05 If someone wants to start this journey, what would you do recommend them to start learning first?
“We have free online workshops where they can adapt.”
They could do short consultations with online teachers.
